Our bases
Hamburg, Berlin, Munich and Stockholm form the operating bases for our scheduled flights. Uetersen/Heist gives NordFly a special home for VFR aviation.
Introduction – From Hamburg to the world
When the idea for NordFly was born in a living room in Hamburg in 2020, one thing was clear: Hamburg would be more than our birthplace. It would be the home and operational heart of our airline.
When NordFly was founded, we first needed the organisational and technical foundations for virtual flight operations. That included choosing a main base where our first aircraft could be based and managed in our systems. Step by step, an idea became a virtual airline with its own fleet, a steadily growing route network and a distinct identity.
What began with a single base kept growing over the years. As our membership, flight connections and international community expanded, so did the desire to establish NordFly at more European locations.
Today, alongside our main base in Hamburg, we operate three further bases in Berlin, Stockholm and Munich. Each has its own character and adds variety to our operations. Different aircraft types are based there, connecting domestic and international destinations on our changing summer and winter schedules.
Four bases do not mean four boundaries at NordFly.
Although members select a home base when registering, they are not tied to that location. Our pilots can use the entire route network, fly different aircraft or plan their own connections regardless of their chosen base.
Because despite all our organisational structures, one thing comes first: the freedom to enjoy flight simulation in your own way.
Hamburg – Where our story began
Our home. Our birthplace. Our main base.
Hamburg is much more than a point on our route map. NordFly's story began here in 2020, and the city remains the organisational and symbolic heart of our virtual airline. Since early 2026, our project has also been officially supported by Hamburg Airport.

At Hamburg Airport “Helmut Schmidt” (EDDH), we chose an airport with a remarkable history of its own. Opened in 1911, it is regarded as Germany's oldest commercial airport still operating at its original location and remains one of the country's major aviation hubs.
Its blend of tradition, modern infrastructure and international connections makes it an ideal starting point for virtual operations. From Hamburg, NordFly serves numerous European destinations and offers pilots a varied route network.
A special connection between virtual and real-world aviation developed in early 2026.
Since then, we have been delighted to receive official project support from Hamburg Airport. We especially appreciate the friendly and supportive cooperation with its Visitor Services team. By displaying NordFly flyers at the airport, we can reach people beyond the flight-simulation community and inspire new interest in our shared hobby.
This support means a great deal to us. It is far from a given that a real commercial airport would show this level of interest and appreciation for a virtual airline project.
Hamburg will always hold a special place in our story: where the idea began, where our airline is at home and where NordFly started its journey into virtual aviation.

Berlin – Our connection to the capital
One capital. Countless connections.
In 2023, NordFly reached another milestone: by opening a base at Berlin Brandenburg Airport “Willy Brandt” (BER/EDDB), we added one of Germany's most important aviation locations to our operating network.

Few cities represent internationalism, cultural diversity and constant change quite like Berlin. These qualities also reflect our virtual airline, which thrives on a diverse community and a shared passion for aviation.
The new Berlin base let us expand our network within Germany and add connections to many European destinations.
Berlin Brandenburg Airport provides a versatile starting point for short domestic flights, European capitals and popular holiday regions, giving our pilots many routes and aircraft types to explore.
Its opening was also another step in establishing NordFly beyond its northern German roots throughout the German-speaking region.
Berlin represents more than another operating base: it stands for growth, diversity and our determination to keep developing our route network.

Stockholm – NordFly discovers the north
Scandinavian roots. International horizons.
Also in 2023, alongside the opening of our Berlin base, Stockholm marked another major step in NordFly's history.

The idea came in no small part from our own community. Over the years, more members from Scandinavia joined our virtual airline. This increased the desire to integrate northern Europe more closely into our operations and to offer our international community another base.
Stockholm Arlanda (ESSA), Sweden's largest airport, proved the perfect choice.
And let's be fair: what could suit an airline called NordFly better than a base in the far north of Europe?
Our Stockholm base added a northern European focus to the network, with services to Scandinavian destinations, major European cities and other international locations.
Scandinavian aviation has a charm of its own. Expansive landscapes, varied weather, long winters and exceptional lighting conditions make flights here a special experience even in a simulator.
Stockholm is an important part of our identity. It reflects not only our international growth but also the way our community's wishes and backgrounds help shape NordFly.
With Stockholm, our name became a little more literal: NordFly had truly arrived in northern Europe.

Munich – Our gateway to the south
Bavarian home. International connections.
In 2024, NordFly continued to expand, opening a fourth operating base at Munich Airport “Franz Josef Strauss” (EDDM).

Munich marked our first expansion into southern Germany and became another important starting point for our domestic and international network.
As one of Europe's major aviation hubs, Munich Airport offers excellent conditions for varied virtual flight operations. Its modern infrastructure, international links and location in southern Germany complement our existing bases.
The opening came at an exciting stage of the group's development, as NordFly Cargo was also becoming increasingly important. The expansion created new opportunities to combine different areas of virtual aviation within our overall concept.
From Munich, our pilots can discover many European destinations as well as flights beyond the continent. Its proximity to the Alps and popular holiday regions in southern Europe gives the location a distinct character.
Whether a short scheduled flight within Germany, a connection to a European city or a longer international route, Munich adds a wealth of options to our schedules.
Opening this base marked another important step: NordFly had grown from a virtual airline focused on northern Germany into a community with operational bases in northern, eastern and southern Germany and Scandinavia.
Today, Munich represents our airline's continued development and our commitment to giving pilots a varied and rewarding flying experience.

Uetersen/Heist – The freedom of visual flight
Small aircraft. Great freedom. Flying for the love of it.
Not every flight starts at a large international airport. At Uetersen/Heist Airfield (EDHE), west of Hamburg, NordFly has a special base devoted to general aviation and visual flight rules (VFR).

Away from scheduled airline traffic, the focus is on smaller powered aircraft, individual routes and the original fascination of flying.
Its location in Schleswig-Holstein offers ideal opportunities: sightseeing over northern Germany, along the Elbe, trips to the North Sea or Baltic coast, or longer discovery flights across Europe.
Visual navigation, discovering varied landscapes and the joy of independent flying are at the heart of the experience.
Uetersen/Heist gives VFR aviation a permanent home within NordFly. Our passion for aviation is not limited to large airliners. Small aircraft are just as much a part of flight simulation's fascinating variety.
Uetersen/Heist embodies our philosophy: maximum freedom, varied flying experiences and a shared passion for aviation.
